Business, the Budget, Brussels and Breakfast with Owen Paterson, MP for North Shropshire
The Federation of Small Businesses is the largest business support organisation in the UK with over 160,000 members. Formed in 1974, it is the UK’s leading business organisation representing small and medium-sized businesses.
As SME’s contribute some £1,500 billion to the UK economy, and employ over 14 million people, the FSB has a major role to play lobbying Government on their behalf.
The FSB has campaigned hard for Small Business Rates Relief – so the recent budget announcement that it would be more than doubled permanently was welcomed by FSB members watching the budget speech with county leaders at a luncheon at the Wroxeter Hotel.
After the Leader of the Opposition’s reply, diners were joined by telephone link to the House of Commons and were able to discuss the implications of the budget for Shropshire with Owen Paterson, MP for North Shropshire. He said: “Shropshire needs better trains, roads, broadband and mobile signals. Civil servants down here don’t really understand how Shropshire works.” He did however welcome the lowering of corporation tax saying this will bring in foreign investment.
Owen Paterson will be attending an FSB networking meeting at 5.30 pm at Tern Hill Hall Hotel on Thursday, 8th September giving local businesses an opportunity to discuss local issues with their local MP. To book email [email protected]
